Anzac Day 2017 – Poems

For the fallen :

Anzac Day 2017 Poems

With pleased thanksgiving, a mother for her youngsters,

Britain grieves for her dead over the ocean.

Substance of her tissue they were, soul of her soul,

Fallen in the reason for the free.

Grave the drums exhilarate ; Death worthwhile and sumptuous

Sings distress up into unfading circles,

There is music amidst devastation

Furthermore, a magnificence that sparkles upon our tears.

They went with tunes to the fight, they were vigorous,

Straight of appendage, valid for eye, relentless and aglow.

They were resolute to the end against chances numerous;

They fell with their countenances to the enemy.

They should develop not old, as we that are left develop old:

Age might not fatigued them, nor the years censure.

At the the sunset and at the sunrise

We will recollect that them.

They blend not with their snickering companions once more;

They sit no more at recognizable tables of home;

They have no part in our work of the day-time;

They rest past England’s froth.

Anyway, where our cravings are and our trusts significant,

Felt as a well-spring that is escaped sight,

To the profound heart they could call their own property they are known

As the stars are known to the Night;

As the stars that might be splendid when we are dust,

Moving in walks upon the superb plain;

As the stars that are starry in the season of our murkiness,

To the end, to the end, they remain.

– Laurence Binyon (1869–1943)
